It's been a while I wanted to write about this restaurant. Kashiwa is a Japanese restaurant at Blok M, South Jakarta. I think it's a little hidden gem, mainly because of the affordable price, and how good the food they have.
Located on the second floor, a bit hidden if you are not thoroughly seeing the name sign. Once I open the door, I could feel the nuance of Japanese culture. You could see their menu was on the blackboard written in Japanese words, paper lanterns in different colors, bookcases filled with manga, and the whole interior with brownish wooden color.
I was there with a bunch of my friends from campus, so we made the reservation early on. This restaurant open at 6 PM, and always on demand, be sure to get a reservation or come early if you don't want to be on the waiting list. We ordered some of the dishes for sharing, and it's quite a lot. Their menu price was all Rp 29.800 / serving, very affordable indeed!
The first dish we have is Tori Karage with spicy mayo. Crispy, but a bit too salty for me. I like how the mayo sauce balancing out the saltiness. I could taste a ginger from the seasoning on the chicken.
The sushi roll was so so for me. I forgot which one of these, maybe California roll, I'm not sure but yeah it's not that memorable tho. I think sushi wasn't their speciality.
The Kashiwa salad, is my favorite. Filled with vegetable, mashed potato, and chicken meat, completed with their own salad dressing recipe. I'm an avid salad-ers, so I pretty estatic about this menu.
This one is Kaisen Okonomiyaki, a bit crispy outside and very soft inside, no doubt about the taste, it's pretty dense too, very fulfilling.
Very recommended dish in Kashiwa, the Chicken Nanban. Look like Katsu, but the chicken dip into the egg batter instead of bread crumb. The seasoning on the chicken was alright, but I think the tasty flavour comes from the tartar sauce.
I personally ordered this one, Zaru Soba, because of the intense oily side dishes above. I like how refreshing the mentsuyu dipping sauce with the cold soba. The soba itself was okay for me, not very special.
That's my review on Kashiwa.
