This is the third part of my Singapore travel series. in this part, I was sight seeing the neighborhood near the hotel I was staying at the time. My hotel placed in Joo Chiat Complex, and this colorful neighborhood called the Peranakan Houses.
Peranakan means descendant, a mixed between the Chinese and Malay heritage if I'm not mistaken. The architecture itself was from the early 20th century. You can see the intricate details, mostly floral or geometric pattern used in this style of houses.
I love how they paint the houses in a different shade of color. From pastel to a very bright pink color. It feels like in an animated movie. Some were used as a private house. They also rent it, so if you interested to live in this colorful house, you can rent it.
Still in the nearest area of Joo Chiat Road, the Crane Road area is mostly a commercial shop house. They use the Peranakan house on the first floor as a commercial space, cafe, restaurant, boutique, etc. While on the second floor, it's the living area of the owner.
I'm in love with this area, not only it gives a very unique vibe of Peranakan culture,
you can find some gems spot to unwind.
What do you think about Peranakan House?
Have you visited the Joo Chiat area?
